The Research scholars use the lab for research and development purposes in their respective thesis area in addition to that various Bachelor and Master Thesis Projects are done under the supervision of Prof. Utpal Barua. The facilities of the lab is not restricted to visual designers and all interested students may use the facilities to enhance the quality of their respective work. The research interests includes Visual culture, Semantics and semiotics, Visual Metaphors, Art history, Tangible and Intangible Cultural heritage, etc.

Design Innovation Centre (DIC) Thematic Project

Tourist navigation guide/ systems for heritage & monument sites of assam/ north east

The aim of the project is to provide better Navigation tool for Assam tourism showcasing the vibrant culture & heritage of Assam with flora and fauna. The end product for innovation and entrepreneurship is to design a Smart Navigation System for heritage & monument sites of Assam. And Memento design and experimental development- showcasing the heritage & culture of Assam (Crystal/ metal and other possible materials). The lab resources were used intensely on the DIC thematic project for 3D modelling & renderings for memento designs. Total of 23+ models were developed.

Institute Calendar Design

As the first project done under DIC, Prof. Utpal Barua (Project Incharge of DIC) developed some innovative and creative design ideas along with students to design an Institute calendar.

This Book Design Project was done for the Olympia Fine Arts International Exhibition And Symposium 2016 (OFAIES) in association with Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Govt. Of Assam and Kalakshetra Guwahati, Assam.
City Branding
The conceptual city branding for Sivasagar city of Assam was done under the Visualisation Studio by the Design Research Scholar, Saurav Khuttiya Deori.
Student Artworks
The following artworks were created by the Design Research Scholar, Namrita Sharma, which includes
1. Digital collage of two analogue photographs taken in a City called Cluj-Napoca (Romania) while working on an assignment to capture different elements of that city. This work was executed during Namrita's scholarship tenure- Erasmus+ Exchange Program at University of Art and Design, Cluj Napoca, Romania.
2. Multi Color Woodcut with a theme of a newborn and her interactions in this world. The composition is about the engagement of a baby with her toys, her playfulness and innocence.
3. Another composition based on the same theme - newborn and her playful engagement with her doll.
