Department of Design
The Lab has been set up under the supervision of Prof. Utpal Barua, former Head of Department of Design, IITG.
Utpal Barua completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and currently he serves as a Professor in Department of Design, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He has been an active member of National Academy of Art since 1985. He has participated in 45+ national level exhibitions in India and 65+ International level exhibitions/ symposiums/ conferences.
In 2008, he won the prestigious Gold medal in Olympic Fine Arts, Beijing, China and also he has been actively participating in Olympic Fine Arts since then. He was the Former President of OFAA ( Olympic Fine Art Association), Finland. Also, he was the former head of the Centre for Creativity, IITG from 2015-2018.

The Visualisation Lab is set up under Design Innovation Centre (DIC) that provides a platform for the visual designers to explore and enhance the usage of digital tools for print media, motion graphics & 3D modelling. Digital tools like Adobe - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & Autodesk 3D maya, AutoCAD are installed in the computers. Wacom cintiqs are also available to explore & enhance various Illustrations and 3D modellings. Apart from digital platform it also provides spaces for art & crafts.
The lab is used for multiple purposes like projects, thesis work and coursework by students and research scholars alike.
The lab resources are used extensively on various Projects like the DIC thematic project, Institute Calendar Design, Convocation Design and more.
The Research scholars uses lab for the research and development purposes in their respective thesis topics, in addition to the various Bachelor and Master Thesis Projects done under the supervision of Prof. Utpal Barua.
